WOW! Thank you to those of you who were a part of our first ever First Loves Denton Day on Sunday. You beautifully showed Relentless Love while serving, sharing, caring, and shivering for the Glory of God. One of First Denton’s Core Values is Relentless Love: “God pursues us with a relentless love. Relentless and sacrificial love is Jesus’ conduit for the gospel, so we love people like He does. We demonstrate relentless love by our efforts to love those in our circles of influence, no matter what.”
I remember a very wise training union teacher of mine in junior high (that is a Discipleship Teacher for you sweet young ones) who said, “Never do we look and smell more like Jesus than when we serve others.”
Some of my favorite images and smells from Sunday, were those of children working alongside their parents. Raking leaves, stuffing food bags for the needy children of Denton ISD, shoveling dirt with two sets of hands on the shovel, and dirty faces. Another sweet picture is that of multiple generations serving, laughing, loving, helping, and sweating in the name of our Loving Lord.
Please join me in continuing to show love to those around us, at work, at school, at the grocery store and even the doctor’s office. These acts show our gratitude for the sacrificial love of Christ on the cross for you and I. Paul wrote a letter to the Romans and to you and me. “Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell” Ephesians 5:1-2 (ASV).
I am thanking our Lord today for the opportunity to serve Him at First Denton alongside folks who look and smell a lot like Jesus!
