“Whoever drinks my water will never thirst. Indeed, my water will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life!” JOHN 4:13
I read a story some years ago about a 19th century professor visiting an Ivy League campus as a guest lecturer. As the professor approached the main square of the campus, he glanced across the way and noticed a man in blue overalls pumping water from a well. An hour later, after his lecture, he was surprised to see the man still pumping. And still another hour later, after lunch, the man was still pumping.
The professor decided he had to meet this man and ask him, “How is it that you have enough stamina to pump this well for more than three hours?”
So the professor began to walk toward the man. As he got closer, he thought something looked a little strange. Closer still, the professor could see that it wasn’t a man at all. It was a wood-carved man! And he wasn’t pumping the well, because the well - an artesian well - was pumping him! Obviously, the wood-man would “pump the water” as long as the water flowed! As long as the water flowed, the wood-man had life!
Isn’t that true also of our relationship with the Lord? As long as the “living water” of Jesus flows in us, we never grow tired or thirsty. As long as the “living water” of the Lord is flowing through us, we have LIFE!
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!” - Jesus
